Women in families with MSH2 germline mutation for Lynch syndrome need to be counseled, especially if they test positive for the mutation, states Ginsburg. These women have a very high risk of uterine cancer and endometrial cancer. Additionally, the risk of uterine cancer in those families is higher than the risk of ovarian cancer.

There are many genes that are included in the NCCN guidelines that are followed in genetic clinics, states Ginsburg. These guidelines are important to follow for insurance purposes.   

When offered genetic counseling, more patients will be educated on BRCA1/2 genes, Lynch syndrome, and could be qualified for up to 80-gene panels, states Ginsburg.
