OncLive® welcomes the University of Vermont Cancer Center to its Strategic Alliance Partnership for promoting public awareness of the latest advances in cancer research and care.

In the new partnership, OncLive’s editorial and marketing teams will publicize important news from the University of Vermont Cancer Center. Based in Burlington, the University of Vermont Cancer Center is a not-for-profit clinical and research cancer center clinically aligned with the University of Vermont Medical Center. With more than 120 scientists and physicians involved in a full range of basic, translational, clinical and outcomes research, the University of Vermont Cancer Center is the only organization of its kind in the state.

“We’re delighted to partner with the University of Vermont Cancer Center, which is seeking to uncover new knowledge and understanding about cancer and the issues that affect patients,” said Michael Hennessy Jr., president of CURE Media Group. “By publicizing advances in cancer treatment and research being conducted at the University of Vermont Cancer Center, our goal is to motivate, encourage and inspire others.”

Gary Stein, PhD, director of the University of Vermont Cancer Center and chair of the Department of Biochemistry, added, “The University of Vermont Cancer Center is committed to eradicating cancer through research collaborations among scientists, physicians and physician investigators. We are dedicated to innovative basic, translational and clinical research, offering the most advanced clinical trials to deliver cutting-edge cancer care of the future.”

A central part of the University of Vermont Cancer Center’s mission is to share with the public — as well as with other cancer providers, researchers and healthcare experts – the latest information on cancer prevention and screening, diagnostics and treatment, including advances in clinical and laboratory research and issues of survivorship.

“Through our collaboration with OncLive’s Strategic Alliance Partnership, we will be better positioned to fulfill our mission and communicate more effectively with our local, regional and international audiences,” said Stein.

Physicians and scientists at the University of Vermont Cancer Center have made significant contributions to advances in cancer research. Among them are:

  • Pioneering a new biopsy procedure that has changed the course of cancer treatment
  • Discovering how certain cholesterol-lowering drugs may also be used in cancer therapies
  • Contributing to the discovery of certain inherited risk factors for breast cancer
  • Finding new ways to increase tolerability and reduce unwanted side effects of cancer drugs
  • Establishing community cancer registries
  • Assessing and addressing the needs of cancer survivors

The University of Vermont Cancer Center joins OncLive’s Strategic Alliance Partnership as the latest of nearly 60 partners, including other leading cancer centers, nursing schools and physician groups around the country.
