Dr. Terri Woodard on Preservative Measures for Women With Ovarian Cancer

Terri Woodard, MD, assistant professor, Department of Gynecologic Oncology and Reproductive Medicine, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, discusses if conservative management for women with ovarian cancer is warranted. Woodard says some women with ovarian cancer opt not to take conservative measures due to either their age or hormone levels being too low, though others will opt for preservative treatment prior to chemotherapy.

Woodard says certain treatment options can results in infertility in women, and knowing this beforehand, these women can undergo preservative measures such as freezing their eggs prior to their treatment. She adds that some patients, due to either treatment options or stage of their ovarian cancer, may not be able to pursue preservative measures as a viable option.
