Focus will be on Wisconsin Center's innovative research centers and impact on local communities.
With the addition of UW Carbone Cancer Center of Madison, Wis., to its Strategic Alliance Partnership program, OncLive® will headline the latest news coming from the Center’s innovative research centers and its impact on local communities, OncLive announced today.
Thanks to the new partnership, OncLive’s editorial and marketing teams will work with the UW Carbone Cancer Center, sharing news such as the Center’s recently announced participation in a program that targets drugs based not on the part of the body in which a cancer originated but rather on the patient’s genetic makeup.
One of UW Carbone Cancer Center’s many research programs focuses on imaging and radiation sciences, integrating physical and biological sciences with clinical research via new imaging technologies to improve the diagnosis and treatment of cancers. The Center’s Experimental Pathology Laboratory has pioneered techniques such as the use of advanced microscopy to obtain molecular information from tissue. The Center also runs a biobanking program that stores donated tissue samples for later research.
“The UW Carbone Cancer Center provides a wealth of essential services to the people of Wisconsin,” said Mike Hennessy Jr., president of Intellisphere Oncology and Healthcare Specialty Group, part of the Plainsboro, N.J.-based Michael J. Hennessy Associates, Inc. (MJH) family of businesses, which includes OncLive. “Our new partnership means we will be better able to share important cancer news from the Center with others committed to fighting this disease.”
For its patients, the UW Carbone Cancer Center offers a variety of services, innovative treatments, support groups, genetic counseling, acupuncture and healing touch programs, just to name a few. The Center is Wisconsin’s sole comprehensive cancer center, as designated by the National Cancer Institute.
“In addition to our important research, we provide quality cancer care to patients who come to us for help with a wide variety of cancers,” said Dr. Howard Bailey, director of the UW Carbone Cancer Center. “The field of oncology is rapidly changing, and we are well positioned to offer our patients the most promising therapeutic options.”
The UW Carbone Cancer Center joins more than 50 other leading cancer centers, nursing schools and physician groups around the country in partnering with OncLive.
