We recently traveled to Brooklyn, New York, for a State of the Science Summit™ on Gastrointestinal Cancer. At the meeting, faculty from Weill Cornell Medical Center and Montefiore Medical Center discussed the importance of next-generation sequencing in advanced gastric and gastroesophageal junction cancer and explained that a deeper understanding of the biology of neuroendocrine tumors may be key in propelling therapeutic progress forward.
Faculty also provided insight into advances made in the treatment of patients with pancreatic cancer, outlined the next steps for research in that space, and shed light on some of the sequencing challenges created by the rapid progress made in hepatocellular carcinoma.
Moreover, faculty highlighted how genetic testing is guiding treatment decisions in metastatic colorectal cancer, the novel strategies that are moving through the pipeline, and additional targets of interest in the space.
