Drs Park and Leyfman discuss their commitment to advancing global medical education, mentoring future leaders, and bridging gaps in access to accurate health care information.
In this episode of Oncology Unplugged, a podcast series from OncLive and MedNews Week, podcast host Chandler Park, MD, a medical oncologist at Norton Cancer Institute in Louisville, Kentucky, and Yan Leyfman, MD, a resident physician at Mount Sinai in New York, New York, discussed the origins and mission of MedNews Week, a global platform designed to combat health care misinformation and advance medical education. Conceived during the COVID-19 pandemic, MedNews Week was created in response to widespread misinformation and a need for accessible, evidence-based information. Over the past 2 and a half years, the platform has expanded to reach over 100 countries, focusing on underserved regions and amplifying the voices of both established oncology leaders and early-career researchers.
The platform offers educational initiatives like Keynote Conference, a 1-hour session featuring expert presentations and interactive Q&A sessions; and Medical Spotlight, which highlights the professional journeys and research of global experts. Oncology Unplugged provides a real-world perspective on how oncologists incorporate trial data into clinical practice, addressing patient-specific considerations often missed in formal conferences. In this episode, Dr Park emphasized MedNews Week’s commitment to mentorship, providing trainees with opportunities to publish research, present at conferences, and secure residency placements, particularly those in resource-limited settings.
MedNews Week's partnership with OncLive to amplify its global reach, leveraging OncLive’s expansive platform to deliver concise, interactive, and accessible oncology education tailored to modern audiences. By emphasizing equity and inclusion, this initiative aims to address disparities in professional opportunities and foster a more diverse and innovative oncology community. In this discussion, Drs Park and Leyfman reaffirmed their commitment to advancing global medical education, mentoring future leaders, and bridging gaps in access to accurate health care information.
