Dr. Jain and Dr. Spaggiari highlight key advancements in the treatment of patients with colorectal cancer liver metastases, patient and disease factors to consider during surgical and systemic treatment decisions, and the importance of multidisciplinary care in this patient population.
Welcome to OncLive On Air®! I’m your host today, Gina Mauro.
OncLive On Air® is a podcast from OncLive®, which provides oncology professionals with the resources and information they need to provide the best patient care. In both digital and print formats, OncLive® covers every angle of oncology practice, from new technology to treatment advances to important regulatory decisions.
Today, we had the pleasure of speaking with Shikha Jain, MD, FACP, an assistant professor of medicine and the director of communication strategies in medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, associate director of oncology communication and digital innovation at the UI Cancer Center, and a medical oncologist at UI Health. We also spoke with Mario Spaggiari, MD, a transplant surgeon in the Division of Transplantation at UI Health.
The 2 experts spoke about how although patients with colorectal cancer plus more than 1 liver metastasis were historically limited in terms of treatment options, advances in surgical and preoperative chemotherapy approaches have broadened the paradigm for this patient population to include curative-intent strategies. Early intervention and multidisciplinary care remain key aspects of this evolving landscape.
In our exclusive interview, Drs Jain and Spaggiari highlighted key advancements made in the treatment of patients with CRC and liver metastases, patient and disease factors to consider for surgical and systemic treatment, and the importance of multidisciplinary care for this population.
