Future Treatment Approaches for Patients With Glioma

Melissa L. Bondy, PhD, MS, Duncan Cancer Center-Bondy Cancer Prevention and Population Sciences, Baylor College of Medicine, discusses future treatment approaches for patients with glioma.

Due to additional findings reported in the Glioma International Case Control study, Bondy explains that immune function, chicken pox, and the vesicular stomatitis virus, also have a role in patients with glioma. As an epidemiologist, she says it is important to unravel what these various risk factors mean.

Epidemiology is the core of understanding the basics of a disease and its underlying causes. Regarding future treatment approaches for glioma, Bondy envisions working with novel methods such as CRISPR models to gain a deeper understanding of the genetics of glioma.
