Puja S. Venkat, MD, assistant professor, Radiation Oncology, radiation oncologist, UCLA Health, discusses unmet needs in ovarian cancer.

Management strategies in ovarian cancer have dramatically evolved over the past few decades. Moreover, survival has been extended for patients with several agents that have been added to the treatment armamentarium, Venkat explains. However, regardless of the treatment given, patients with ovarian cancer tend to recur, Venkat explains. This becomes a challenge when deciding what treatment is optimal for a patient, Venkat says.

Although the novel systemic agents are steps forward for patients with ovarian cancer, localized treatment it is still preferred, Venkat concludes.
