Many cases of head and neck cancer have become associated with HPV, explains Siegel. The implications of high-dose radiation are more consequential since the patients are younger.

Instead of using traditional chemotherapy and radiation regimens, standard doses of chemotherapy drugs have shown HPV-associated cancers shrink quicker, states Siegel.
