Dr. Shah on Indications of Early-Onset CRC

Manish A. Shah, MD, director of gastrointestinal oncology, Weill Cornell Medicine/New York-Presbyterian Hospital, discusses indications of early-onset colorectal cancer (CRC).

Early-onset CRC is rising in incidence, which was confirmed on the most recent analysis, states Shah. SEER data, Risk Factor Analysis data, and available genomic data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), were evaluated to determine if early-onset CRC is different to traditional CRC.

The results demonstrate that early-onset CRC is more prevalent in left-sided tumors. There is something specific about the biology of the left colon that is causing this increase, explains Shah.
