Dr. O'Neil on Left-Sided Versus Right-Sided CRC

Bert O’Neil, MD, the Joseph W. and Jackie J. Cusick Professor of Oncology, professor of medicine, and director of the Phase I and Gastrointestinal Oncology Programs at Indiana University, discusses left-sided versus right-sided colorectal cancer (CRC).

The right and left side of the colon have different embryologic origins, explains O’Neil. There are some differences in biology based on where the tumor begins. Researchers are attempting to determine whether it is the side of the colon or the molecular features that are drivers of behavior.
