Jihad Kaouk, MD, urologist, Cleveland Clinic, discusses challenges regarding robotic surgery for patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC).
According to Kaouk, physicians are still attempting to understand how to preserve the maximum amount of the kidney with surgery. The aim of a partial nephrectomy is to only remove the cancerous part of the kidney, while the rest remains intact.
In order to accomplish this, the surgeon must be precise, which is something that can still be improved, explains Kaouk.
