Christopher J. Kane, MD, professor of Surgery, chair, Department of Urology, UC San Diego Health, discusses the impact of genetic testing on patients with prostate cancer.
Genetic testing for patients with prostate cancer can have a broad impact on who needs to be screened and who can benefit from screening. Many times, when patients come in for screening, they don’t know their family history, explains Kane.
The genomic risk that might be inherited in your germline could influence the type of prostate cancer a patient could have and how sensitive that prostate cancer is to different types of treatment, states Kane.
