Dr. Gomella on Screening Recommendations in Prostate Cancer

Men with known BRCA1/2 mutations or DNA repair pathway gene mutations should consider being screened earlier than men in the general population, says Gomella.

Currently, widespread genetic testing is not available in prostate cancer, explains Gomella. However, men with a family history of hereditary breast, ovarian, or advanced prostate cancers should consider germline genetic testing.

While genetic testing is not the standard of care, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines recommend screening for patients with these risk factors, concludes Gomella.
