Massimo Cristofanilli, MD, professor of medicine, Feinberg School of Medicine, Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, discusses endocrine therapy for patients with breast cancer.
According to Cristofanilli, endocrine therapy is the most important therapy that is used in adjuvant prevention and management of metastatic breast cancer. The vast majority of patients with breast cancer have an estrogen receptor (ER)-positive disease, which responds well to endocrine therapy.
Understanding the molecular pathway has helped the development of new drugs for patients, states Cristofanilli.
