Ziad Bakouny, MD, MSc, postdoctoral genitourinary oncology research fellow, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, discusses the rate of disease progression in sarcomatoid carcinoma.
Despite recent advances in the sarcomatoid carcinoma armamentarium with therapies, such as the introduction of checkpoint inhibitors, patients with sarcomatoid carcinoma tend to progress very rapidly, says Bakouny.
As such, it is important to note that patients' tumors may develop into a more severe and symptomatic disease presentation if patientsdo not respond to therapy, Bakouny explains.
In the clinical setting, nurses tend to be sensitive to the risk of disease progression among patients with sarcomatoid carcinoma, Bakouny concludes.
