In today’s episode, we had the pleasure of speaking with faculty from the 40th Annual Miami Breast Cancer Conference® featuring updates in the treatment of patients across the breast cancer continuum.
Patrick I. Borgen, MD, chair of the Miami Breast Cancer Conference®, expanded on the importance of holding such multidisciplinary conferences for clinicians. Borgen is chair of the Department of Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center and head of the Maimonides Breast Center at the Maimonides Cancer Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Laura J. Esserman, MD, MBA, the Alfred A. de Lorimier Endowed Chair in General Surgery, a professor in the Departments of Surgery and Radiology, and affiliate faculty for the Institute for Health Policy Studies at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), as well as the director of the UCSF Breast Care Center, co-leader of the Breast Oncology Program for the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the 2018 Giants of Cancer Care® award winner for cancer diagnostics, discussed future directions for the phase 2 I-SPY 2 trial (NCT01042379) in patients with high-risk breast cancer.
Next, Kelly K. Hunt, MD, FACS, FSSO, professor and chair of the Department of Breast Surgical Oncology in the Division of Surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, discussed considerations for axillary reverse mapping for the reduction or prevention of lymphedema in breast cancer.
Kevin Kalinsky, MD, MS, an associate professor in the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine, director of the Glenn Family Breast Center, director of Breast Medical Oncology, and the Louisa and Rand Glenn Family Chair in Breast Cancer Research at the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, discussed how to best sequence antibody-drug conjugates in patients with triple-negative breast cancer.
Lisa A. Carey MD, ScM, FASCO, the L. Richardson and Marilyn Jacobs Preyer Distinguished Professor for Breast Cancer Research and the deputy director of Clinical Sciences at the University of North Carolina (UNC)-Chapel Hill Breast Cancer Clinical Research at UNC Chapel Hill, UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, discussed how response-guided therapy can be used to tailor HER2-positive breast cancer treatment.
Steven J. Chmura, MD, PhD, a professor of radiation and cellular oncology, and a professor of medicine at the University of Chicago, as well as the medical director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Clinical and Translational Research for Radiation Oncology, at UChicago Medicine in Illinois, discussed management strategies for patients with oligometastatic breast cancer.
