Alex Molasiotis, RN, PhD, professor, Head of School, School of Nursing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, discusses the results of a pilot feasibility study looking at inspiratory muscle training for the management of breathlessness in patients with lung cancer.

This study found that inspiratory muscle training is feasible: it was helpful to manage distress, improve dyspnea scores, and help patients to feel in control of their disease. Patients also reported being able to take more walks and walk longer.

Now, Molasiotis says, inspiratory muscle training must be looked at in a larger trial.
